Full Moon Pictures "Murder Machines - 3 DVD Set" ADDED

Postby Paul_Rudoff » 31 Jul 2015 01:10

INTRODUCTION

I'm submitting the info for the three movies included in the Full Moon Pictures "Murder Machines - 3 DVD Set" release, which is (presumably) a repackaging of three discs that are available separately. I've added the item numbers from the face of the discs (printed under the Full Moon logo), in case it helps confirm these are the same as individual releases. Copyright info on the back has this as a 2013 release that comes directly from Full Moon Pictures (http://www.fullmoondirect.com).

They have it on their website here (I bought it from 7-11 for $5 new):

All of the individual DVDs are listed, too, and I suspect that those discs are what's in this set:

For the record, there's also a copy of Crash and Burn in The Charles Band DVD Collection Volume #1 Box Set...

...but I don't know if it's this same disc. I get the feeling that that one is different because I remember seeing that set for sale years ago. It would be nice if someone with that copy sees this and provides the specs.

Video is the same as the Koch DVD, with the same blackness at these spots: 19:37. 37:24, 57:21, and 74:38. You can see this for yourself here:
http://www.facebook.com/video.php?v=809833122447336

I believe that these are spots where the movie was split in the original source (either film reels or a laserdisc master). Whatever is the case, Full Moon did a poor job with the editing in those spots, and it's shameful that they would just use the same master they gave Koch back in 2000.

Although the video is the same as the Koch DVD, the picture quality seems to be FAR WORSE. It seems like they deinterlaced the movie or something because it plays kinda jerky at spots. When it cuts from one shot to the next, the previous shot lingers for a second like a shadow. I don't know how better to describe it.

It's missing the Trailer and Cast & Crew Filmographies from the Koch DVD, but adds 9 "bonus" trailers for other recent Full Moon movies.

Aspect ratio has already been discussed years ago here:

Thanks Paul. Since there's no confirmation that the individual disc is the same or not, I just put it as "Only available in the set".
Don't really get why Full Moon is wasting resources by printing new discs with slight differences but won't fix their VHS-looking transfers.

Yeah, I don't understand it, either. Both the Murder Machines and Tracers 3-DVD sets were blind buys because they were cheap ($5 each, new), and I figured being recent (2013) and coming directly from Full Moon, they'd have better transfers than all of the old DVDs.

I've avoided buying any of the Trancers DVDs for years because I knew about the issues with it coming from an old laserdisc master. Knowing that Full Moon put it out in Blu-ray a year or two ago, I was hoping this new DVD would have been sourced from that master. No such luck.

And every one of the six discs in these new sets has almost all of the same bonus trailers for recent Full Moon flicks, which ALL look like crap! Not the trailers; they're beautifully anamorphic widescreen and some look *almost* high-def. The movies themselves look like crap. I would have liked to have seen bonus trailers for movies of the same vintage as the features. Stuff like the other Trancers films on those discs, Robot Wars, Subspecies, Arcade, Seedpeople, and other such Full Moon gems. Sure, none of those will ever win an Academy Award, but they have a certain charm to them - more than Evil Bong or Gingerdead Man :-)

You don't know how much I *WISH* Paramount were still handling distribution for Full Moon. We'd have some DVDs and Blu-rays with high-quality transfers and the full range of extras. -sigh-
