All Stars AKA StreetDance 3 (3D+2D Blu-ray ALL) ADDED

Postby Ian_Gorski » 01 Aug 2015 13:21

Title: All Stars (title on box is StreetDance 3 All Stars 3D, title on film opening credits is StreetDance All Stars, though the end credits show it just as All Stars)
Country: Netherlands
Region: ALL (box states ABC)
Releasing Studio: Entertainment One
Case Type: slimline keep case
Aspect Ratio: 1.78:1
Anamorphic?: yes
PAL or NTSC?: 1080p 24fps MVC (3D) VC-1 (2D)
Soundtracks: English DTS HD MA 5.1
Subtitles: Dutch (optional)
Cuts: (and precise run time) yes - one dance sequence has been cut - 102m51s
Commentaries: none
Extras: start-up trailers for Mees Kees Op Kamp, Justin And The Knights Of Valour and Khumba (Dutch language, 5:47 total)
Notes: 2D + 3D on same disc, selectable from "Play movie"
Easter Eggs: none
Amazon ASIN (UK, French, German, USA releases only):
Source: I own it, just watched it.

It's a real 3D movie as opposed to a conversion, so it looks good. My PS3 usually shows the codec for 2D versions of 3D films as AVC but this one is VC-1 like the start-up trailers. There is a French 3D release but that may well have forced subs - this one doesn't.

I hate it when a company (in this case Entertainment One) release the same film in completely different editions in two separate localities.

I have the UK release, where they didn't give a 3D version, but do have a bunch of extras and an AVC encode: http://dvdcompare.net/comparisons/film.php?fid=31039

I'll add this one soon.

Is this actually 1080i? UK release runs 106 mins, whilst this Dutch Blu runs the same time as the German PAL DVD.

I have it added, but hidden for now.

Bad news I'm afraid.

I'm not sure how to tell if something is 1080p or 1080i using my PS3 but I did a bit of research on this film and can only conclude that this blu ray is 1080p (as it states on the back cover) because it is most definitely cut.

There's a few fantasy sequences in the film, including one inspired by The Artist where a depressed father imagines himself dancing with his daughter. Well, that scene definitely isn't in the Dutch version. John Barrowman has effectively been cut out of the film, you see him on the sofa for a few seconds and that's it. The French version may also be missing this scene, going by the running time on their Amazon site. Some reviews said his performance was a bit creepy, so perhaps that's why it was cut in the rest of Europe, who knows...

I only bought this for the 3D so it's a bummer to find that this is cut, my bet is the French 3D version has forced subs and as that may well be cut too, I'm not risking a blind buy of that one.

Cheers,

A pretty forgettable film so I forgot how prevalent Barrowman is in it and I am away from home until the 18th August working so can't really check. I will add a cut note to this one soon and then mark as done. I found someone who owns it on another site, so have sent him a message about 1080p/i status (though I imagine it is certainly 1080p from what you have said) though I don't know the guy so no idea if he will respond or even see the message!

Just read that some of Barrowman's scenes were filmed later (the tap dancing scene), so perhaps these segments weren't filmed in 3D due to logistics or budget. Does the 2D version run the same length or by some chance does it have a totally separate stream with the full version?

No, the 2D version runs the same length on the disc, plus those scenes were evidently in the film when it played in Uk cinemas in 3D, so they must exist in 3D.

It's a real nuisance that the distributors didn't put it out on 3D blu ray in the UK, given that it's a British film in the first place...

Of course!

True. Entertainment One are usually one of the better ones for releasing 3D versions, but they are bad for releasing completely different extras in multiple localities. Often their Dutch releases seem to have no extras other than trailers whilst everywhere else gets additional goodies.

There is a German 3D + 2D version that Amazon lists as being 105m so perhaps that one might be complete...
