"007 - Diamonds Are Forever","Draw","R1 and R2/R4 UEs, for the new transfer, DTS, and extras. Do note, that R1 UE includes the original Mono-track.
Also note that R2 UK Ultimate Edition reportedly suffers from lip synching problems. We do not know if these problems are present for the other countries.
General notes (source: 'James Bond DVD Guide' by Richard Crowther - Zetaminor):
'The BBFC request some cuts to the lift fight sequence between Peter Franks and Bond, notably a reduction of the amount of footage showing Bond using a fire extinguisher to kill Franks. Also edited were shots of Bond wielding a brandy bottle as a weapon, and a reduction of the footage showing Kidd jumping over the ship’s rail, whilst on fire at the end of the film. It seems clear that some, if not all, of this footage has long since been reinserted back into the film.'"
"007 - Die Another Day","R2","Between the R2 Holland SE, R2 Scandinavia SE and R2 UK SE for the best selection of extras and DTS-ES in the original language.
The UE release includes a few new featurettes, but omits several extras from the SE release (Inside Die Another Day featurettes, trailers & tv spots, music video by Madonna and more).
"
"007 - Dr No","Draw","R1 and R2/R4 UEs, for the new transfer, DTS, and extras. Original Mono-track is included on the R1 UE, but not on R2/R4 UE's.
General notes (source: 'James Bond DVD Guide' by Richard Crowther - Zetaminor):
'The film itself has always suffered from what is perhaps one of the most famous censorship-imposed cuts ever. In the scene in which Bond is forced to kill Professor Dent, all known prints show Bond shooting Dent twice. In the original cut, Bond sadistically shoots him a total of six times (this can be seen at 56’ 09” on the UE). It is unlikely that the missing footage still exists. It’s never been included on any home video release, even as a DVD extra' - hence listed as 'no cuts'."
"007 - For Your Eyes Only","Draw","R1 R2/R4 UEs, for the new transfer, DTS, and extras. Original Mono-track is included on the R1 UE, but not on R2/R4 UE's."
"007 - From Russia With Love","Draw","R1 and R2/R4 UEs, for the new transfer, DTS, and extras. Original Mono-track is included on the R1 UE, but not on R2/R4 UE's.
General notes (source: Glenn Erickson - DVD Savant/DVDtalk - from research by Gavin Salkeld):
'Among the cuts that had to be made by the BBFC, are the following -
1) References to 'lovers' and 'physical enjoyment' have been cut. There's no indication of exactly where these references appear.
2) The dance in the Gypsy Camp has been shortened to remove wriggling and shots of the women bending over backwards, as a small amount of pubic hair is on show.
3) The fight that follows between the Gypsies and the Bulgars has been considerably reduced.
4) Tania walking nude towards the Bridal Suite bed was cut for the cinema release, but reinstated into video and DVD editions. In all editions I've seen, the actress or her double is actually wearing a body stocking and is veiled by some curtains.
5) Bonds reference to searching Tania is missing, and the kissing is reduced.
6) Tania's remark, 'I hope I came up to expectations' is cut.
7) The scene of the two of them in bed has been darkened and shortened.
8) The use of 'Was I' in 'Was I as exciting as all those Western girls?' has been changed to 'Am I?' The past tense implies that the couple have had sex, while the present tense implies that Bond just finds her attractive.
9) Bond's line 'two hours should straighten this out' as he lowers the blind on the Orient Express is cut.
10) Killer Red Grant (Robert Shaw) gets the drop on Bond in his compartment on the Orient Express. Grant's remark 'What a performance!' when he throws the compromising 8mm film reel at Bond is removed.
11) The subsequent Bond-Grant fight is shorter than it was originally.
12) When Bond shoots SMERSH assassin Rosa Kleb (Lotte Lenya) in the Venice hotel room, shots of her dying have been trimmed and removed, and her death cries have been muted on the soundtrack.
13) Bond's repeat of Red Grant's quip, 'What a performance!' as he examines the film reel in the Gondola, has been cut.
It was this edited version which was to be circulated throughout the world' - hence listed as 'no cuts'.
Subtitle issues (source: 'James Bond DVD Guide' by Richard Crowther - Zetaminor):
Two scenes sometimes includes subtitle translations for the Russian dialogue (all DVDs are the same as the previous home video releases: no subtitles):
1) A sequence early on in the film, where Tatiana Romanova leaves Istanbul's Russian Consulate General with two colleagues (13:35 min - PAL).
2) ..Shortly afterwards, makes her way to a meeting with Rosa Klebb, asking a policeman for directions as she goes (14:00 min - PAL)."
"007 - GoldenEye","Draw","R1 and R2/R4 UEs, for DTS and extras. Do note, that the version on UEs is somewhat cropped compared to the previous SE-releases.
General notes (source: 'James Bond DVD Guide' by Richard Crowther - Zetaminor):
-All DVDs (except the older UK releases) - including the UEs, uses the US theatrical version.
-'UK UE is restoring all of the head-butts removed in previous editions by the BBFC (amongst them, one delivered by Onatopp to Natalya in the jungle scrap, two featured in the dazzling fist fight between Bond and Trevelyan in the dish’s gear room, and one towards the end, during Bond and Trevelyan’s very final tussle). The UK was the only country to make these edits.'
-'For completists, it is worth noting that the original UK edit actually contained one unique shot not seen in any other version. During the final scrap between Bond and Trevelyan, there is a shot of Trevelyan being distracted as he hears the arrival of a helicopter behind him, and turning to look over his shoulder. We then cut to the interior of the helicopter, in which we see Natalya. In the uncut version, after the close-up of Natalya, we cut to a long shot of Bond striking down with his elbow to remove Trevelyan’s hold on him, and then head-butting and kicking Trevelyan over the edge of the gantry they are laid on. In order to remove the head-butt, the UK version instead replaces the start of this long shot with a close-up of Bond, using his elbow in much the same way as the long shot and lunging at Trevelyan (this lunge is no doubt the same head-butt as seen in the long shot, but without the sound effect added), at which point, we cut to the long shot of him kicking Trevelyan off the gantry, as with the uncut version. This change was no doubt implemented to appease the BBFC, in order to remove the obvious head-butt Bond delivers to Trevelyan in the long shot. The unique shot can be found on the very early releases of this film at 117:05 min.'
Subtitle issues:
-UEs use player generated subtitles instead of the original burned-in captions. Original ones were included in older R1 SE."
"007 - Goldfinger","Draw","R1 and R2/R4 UEs, for the new transfer, DTS, and extras. Aspect ratio is also now 1.66:1. Do note, that R1 UE includes the original Mono-track.
General notes (source: 'James Bond DVD Guide' by Richard Crowther - Zetaminor)
'Goldfinger was cut by the BBFC before its theatrical debut, with the removal of a shot of Bonita getting out of the bath at the start of the film, the shortening of the sequence in which a thug is electrocuted in that same bath, and the shortening of the scene of Bond and Jill Masterson on a bed.'
This is the version available worldwide - hence listed as 'no cuts'."
"007 - Licence To Kill","Draw","R1 and R2/R4 UEs, for the new transfer, DTS, and extras. They are also now fully uncut (including all the previously cut MPAA and BBFC footage).
General notes (source: 'James Bond DVD Guide' by Richard Crowther - Zetaminor):
-Older SEs were a direct port of the American PG-13 rated version. This restored most of the sounds and footage once removed by the BBFC, except for four short shots.
-The fully uncut version, available on the UE, now contains the four shots removed from the SE. These are as follows:
*An underwater shot at 21:05 min, showing Felix Leiter's bloody stump has been reinstated near the end of the sequence where Sanchez lowers Leiter into the jaws of a shark.
*Believing that Milton Krest has betrayed him, Sanchez locks Krest into a decompression chamber, pressurizes it, and then severs a feed pipe with an axe. Whilst previous versions showed Krest’s head swell up, the end of the shot, where it explodes, spattering the porthole with blood, has been reinstated at 94:18 min.
*During the sequence in which Dario is dragged into the grinding machine, and is minced alive, the shot seen from underneath the blades, showing bits of diced Dario hitting the camera lens has been lengthened at 109:15 min.
*A lingering shot of Sanchez on fire, flailing in desperation before falling to his knees, has been reinstated to his final confrontation in the desert with Bond at 122:06 min.
-'Sanchez's death':
*In the uncut version, Sanchez's death is depicted as follows:
1. Close-up of Sanchez's waist as Bond sets light to Sanchez's midriff.
2. Close-up of Sanchez screaming as flames rise.
3. Two-shot of Bond and the now engulfed Shanchez as Bond rolls away.
4. Sanchez flails about for a moment, then falls to his knees, still screaming and writhing, finally keeling over to be completely consumed by flames.
5. Shot of Bond running from the tanker as the vehicle ignites. He turns to look as it explodes, and races off to the left of the screen. He turns to look again and staggers now to the right of the screen.
6. Long shot - Tanker is annihilated and Bond pegs it.
7. Bond hides behind a rock as the fireball grows.
*Here's the sequence as seen in the previous UK 15/PG13 rated version:
1. Same.
2. Same.
3. Same.
4. Second half of shot 5 in the un-cut version (as Bond staggers to the right of the shot).
5. Second half of shot 4 in the uncut version, as Sanchez keels over into the fire.
6. First half of shot 5 in the uncut version, as Bond runs away from the tanker and staggers over to the left of the shot, at which point we cut to:
7. Shot 6 of the un-cut version. The rest of the scene is the same in both versions.
In other words, to remove the shot of Sanchez burning to a crisp and flailing about in agony, a later shot is chopped in two, and the two halves are reversed and separated by another shot. This leads to an awkward edit between the 3rd and 4th shots and the 6th and 7th shots in the cut version, since none of these match up too well - Bond is suddenly quite a distance from the tanker as a result of the first edit and has changed position and direction as a result of the second. John Glen was doubtless particularly distressed by this edit since this alteration harmed the otherwise exquisitely handled finale of the film.
Subtitle issues:
-The one caption in this film, “Ishtmus City”, is burnt-in, as it should be."
"007 - Live And Let Die","Draw","R1 and R2/R4 UEs, for the new transfer, DTS, and extras. Original Mono-track is not included on any UE's
Subtitle issues (source: 'James Bond DVD Guide' by Richard Crowther - Zetaminor):
'The first film in the series to employ location captions, all versions to date have presented these burnt-in, as intended.'"
"007 - Living Daylights (The)","Draw","R1 and R2/R4 UEs, for the new transfer, DTS, and extras. Do note, that R1 UE includes the original 3.0-track.
Subtitle issues:
Original R1 pressing and R2/R4 UEs are missing the burned-in location/foreign dialogue captions:
*The establishing caption ('Bratislavia, Czechoslovakia') - which should appear at about the 9:54 min mark.
*Later, in the scene where Kusov is smuggled out in the pipeline, Bond's colleague Rosika Miklos seduces the security supervisor, to distract him from his control panel. Her job done, she rebukes him: 'What sort of girl do you think I am?', but not in the UE: the line doesn't even appear in the regular English subtitles (18:40 min)."
"007 - Man With The Golden Gun (The)","Draw","R1 and R2/R4 UEs, for the new transfer, DTS, and extras. Aspect ratio is now 1.85:1. Do note, that R1 UE includes the original Mono-track."
"007 - Moonraker","Draw","R1 and R2/R4 UEs, for the new transfer, DTS, and extras. R1 also includes the original surround track.
General notes (source: 'James Bond DVD Guide' by Richard Crowther - Zetaminor):
'The end credits are subtly different on the UE, when compared with the SE, though which is the most “accurate” representation is open to question. Whereas the SE had a continuous credits scroll, the UE has a scroll, then a static page containing “Filmed in Panavision / Technicolor”, and “Dolby Stereo” credits, followed by the rest of the end credits, which scroll up as before.'"
"007 - Octopussy","Draw","R1 and R2/R4 UEs, for the new transfer, DTS, and extras. R1 also includes the original surround track.
Subtitle issues:
Original R1 pressing and R2/R4 UEs are missing the burned-in location/foreign dialogue captions. They´re included in the older R2/R4 SEs. (R1 UE still TBC)"
"007 - On Her Majesty's Secret Service","Draw","R1 and R2/R4 UEs, for the new transfer, DTS, and extras. They´re also uncut now. Original Mono-track is included on the R1 UE, but not on R2/R4 UE's.
General notes (source: 'James Bond DVD Guide' by Richard Crowther - Zetaminor):
-'The only change the BBFC insisted upon when On Her Majesty's Secret Service was originally submitted was the addition of some dialogue. After Bond says “I feel a slight stiffness coming on” the words “…in the shoulder” were added, so as to lessen the overtly sexual nature of the line as it originally stood. You’ll note that the added dialogue is heard over a cutaway shot, to smooth over the alteration.' This added dialogue is present in all versions.
-The following scenes are missing (not by the BBFC) from the older DVD-releases (UEs are now uncut):
*A shot of the shadow of a cable car passing over the mountainside, just before a cut to Campbell scaling the mountain (which has been reinserted on the UE, just after the line 'Perhaps you'd like to teach me?', at 72:19 min).
*Approximately ten seconds worth of footage from the stock car race.
*A line in the subsequent sequence as Bond and Tracy leave the race-track (the line 'I told you that crowd would discourage them' should be delivered over an interior shot of Bond and Tracy in the car, as can be seen in the UE at 103:58 min. The previous DVD version had it delivered over an exterior shot of the car - which should play out without the dialogue - with the interior shot being omitted entirely.
*Blofeld's line 'Tracy, don't be so proud. Your father's own business is not entirely within the law. His brotherhood also have exotic ways of keeping a closed shop' was cut short after 'the law'. The line can be heard in full in the UE, at 116:36 min.
*Also, the cue John Barry wrote to cover the safe-cracking scene, whilst starting in the same place as the uncut VHS edition, was incorrectly cued on the SE, and starts five seconds into the piece, cutting off the opening notes. This has also been corrected for the UE.
-Old '25th AE' VHS-release includes a 3-minute long trailer, that depicted footage and alternative angles that did not make the final cut of the movie. This trailer is not released on DVD."
"007 - Spy Who Loved Me (The)","Draw","R1 and R2/R4 UEs, for the new transfer, DTS, and extras."
"007 - Thunderball","Draw","R1 and R2/R4 UEs, for the new transfer, DTS, and extras. Do note, that R1 includes the original Mono-track.
Also note that R2 UK Ultimate Edition reportedly suffers from lip synching problems. We do not know if these problems are present for the other countries.
General notes (source: 'James Bond DVD Guide' by Richard Crowther - Zetaminor):
-'The only sequence that the BBFC asked to be altered for theatrical exhibition was the scene in which Bond can be seen stroking Patricia with a mink glove. These brief sequences are retained in the DVD and VHS versions.'
-'The end credits originally contained the phrase “James Bond Will Return In On Her Majesty’s Secret Service”. The very end of the credits sequence was chopped off by means of a swift fade-to-black.'
Please see the image-comparison from below:"
"007 - Tomorrow Never Dies","Draw","R1 and R2/R4 UEs, for the new transfer, DTS, and extras. They are also now uncut (including all the previously cut BBFC footage).
Subtitle issues (source: 'James Bond DVD Guide' by Richard Crowther - Zetaminor):
(UEs) Player-generated captions make their presence felt, with one exception. Immediately after the title sequence, the caption “HMS Devonshire” is retained in its blue, burnt-in state.'"
"007 - View to a Kill (A)","Draw","R1 and R2/R4 UEs, for the new transfer, DTS, and extras. Note, that R1 seems to have 'Original Promotional' featurette, and we´re not sure that is this included in the other UEs.
General notes (source: 'James Bond DVD Guide' by Richard Crowther - Zetaminor):
'The only official BBFC mandated change to this film was a darkening of the image at one point during the title sequence, which otherwise revealed rather too much of a semi-nude woman.
However, I stumbled across some more information on another site recently, which suggested that the BBFC were also shown a rough cut of A View To A Kill, at which point, certain recommendations were made for cuts to be implemented to remove, quote, a 'heavy crotch kick and a double neck chop in a fight in a cellar under a building'. Presumably, this is a reference to the fight sequence under the stables, starting at 38’ 12” on the SE. This fight has always seemed somewhat choppier than Glen’s usual style, and contains one or two odd-looking cutaways to Sir Godfrey and the conveyer belt at a couple of points. These cutaways were presumably employed to facilitate the removal of the said kicks and chops, without resorting to jump cuts.
Also of note, there's an awkward jump-cut at 41’ 50” in the scene where May Day climbs into bed with Bond (either to combine two separate takes or, more likely, to remove some accidental nudity). This is still present in the UE.'
In any case, the same version was released worldwide - hence listed as 'no cuts'."
"007 - World Is Not Enough (The)","Draw","R1 and R2/R4 UEs, for the new transfer, DTS, and extras.
Subtitle issues (source: 'James Bond DVD Guide' by Richard Crowther - Zetaminor):
'Whilst on the previous release, all subtitles and captions were player-generated, most of them this time are burnt-in (UEs). I say most, because one scene lets the side down (the sequence in which Elektra agrees to divert the pipeline around a sacred shrine that would otherwise have to be demolished).' You have to manually turn on subtitles for that scene."
"007 - You Only Live Twice","Draw","R1 and R2/R4 UEs (not Brazil), for the new transfer, DTS, and extras. Original Mono-track is included on the R1 UE, but not on R2/R4 UE's.
The Brazil R4 UE misses out on the DTS track."

"Alexander","Draw","Between R1/R2UK SE, R2 Scandinavia & R3 3-disc LE (TC) & R1 (DC), and R1 and R4 (Final Cut).
Theatrical Cut
-The R2 Scandinavian SE has the same extras as the R3 LE HK (apart from the leather certificate and 4 postcards), but the movie is only on 1 disc and not spread across 2 discs (the German release also has the same extras, apart from the bonus trailers, but only has a German DTS track).
-The R1/R2UK SE (film is spread across 2 discs) has the 3-part documentary (same as 'Fight Against Time: Oliver Stone's Alexander') directed by Oliver Stone's son and a commentary exclusive to that version, but misses DTS and the extras on the other releases.
Director's Cut
-The R1 DC is the only way to go with the commentary exclusive to that version (the R0 Thai release has some exclusive extras, but it is in the wrong aspect ratio and has lip sync issues). R2UK DC also has the audio commentary, but no other extras.
Final Cut

"Alien Nation","Draw",""
"Alien Quadrilogy (The)","R1","Region 1 allows you to listen to the audio commentary with either version of the film, but on the regions 2/4, the tracks are available only on: 'Theatrical Release' of 'Alien', 'Special Edition' of 'Aliens', 'Theatrical Release' of 'Alien 3', and 'Theatrical Release' of 'Alien: Resurrection'. Further more, on the Region 1 discs, you can view an optional 'deleted footage' marker, and you´re also able to view the 'deleted footage' from the theatrical cut's 'Supplements menu'. Both of these options are missing from the Region 2/4 discs. R2/R4 are also missing the DVD-ROM feature 'Interactive Script', and the text introduction to Special Edition of the 'Alien3' . Both cover and menu designs differ slightly between the region 1 and region 2/4 discs.
Note, that in the R2 Japanese box set, ALL the 4 films are presented with an English DTS-track, but DTS takes a lot of space and this box set loses the 'Theatrical version' for Aliens and Alien 3, along with the audio commentary for Alien 3. The DTS shows improvements in Aliens, but is on par in Alien 3.
General notes:
These following extra-features ARE missing from all of 'The Alien Quadrilogy' -box sets (these are in 'The Alien Legacy' box set):
-Original audio commentary track by Ridley Scott (from 'Alien') (new commentary with the director has been recorded)
-Jerry Goldsmith's isolated score (from 'Alien')
-The alternate music and production audio track (from 'Alien')
-The alien life-cycle and Nostromo crew bios (2 'easter eggs' from 'Alien')
-'Making of' -featurette (from 'Alien3')
-'Making of' -featurette (from 'Alien: Resurrection')
-'The Alien Legacy' -documentary (from the 'bonus disc')
++AMC's 'The Alien Saga' (This wasn´t on the previous box set, but it´s currently available on R1 DVD from 'Image Entertainment'). Note, that the 'Interview with James Cameron' (from 'Aliens') IS on 'The Alien Quadrilogy' -box set, and can be found under the 'Aliens: laserdisc archive' (divided in 2 parts).
Also:
There are no DTS-tracks on 'Aliens' and 'Alien3' (except on R2 Japanese), and of the four directors involved in these films, only David Fincher declined to participate in the 'Quadrilogy' -production. Also, the Rewind user DannyS has confirmed, that the 'Alien Evolution” -documentary on disc 9 (64 min) is shortened and re-edited from the original Channel 4 broadcast (UK television). The version on 'the Alien Quadrilogy' extends the interviews focusing on 'Alien' (to cover the time), but is eliminating all interviews of 'Aliens', 'Alien3' and 'Alien: Resurrection', and Mark Kermode (other than narration at the start of the documentary).

Most video releases were cut to about 90 min, with the cuts being made seemingly at random, producing an almost incomprehensible result. (Thanks to Micah of Dumb Distraction for this info). The Danish DVD also has a runtime of 90 min, which probably explains the pre-credit transposition reported by Rewind user Phil. We don't have a runtime for the Norwegian DVD, but we suspect it is the same as the Danish release. The German DVD is reported to have a runtime of about 102 min PAL, so it is a more complete version, but still about 14 min PAL shorter than the original Italian film."

Runtime
The DVD Beaver review includes this quote by Andrei Tarkovsky: 'Nobody has ever cut anything from Andrei Rublov. Nobody except me. I made some cuts myself. In the first version the film was 3 hours 20 minutes long (192:00 PAL). In the second — 3 hours 15 minutes (187:12 PAL). I shortened the final version to 3 hours 6 minutes (178:34 PAL). I am convinced the latest version is the best, the most successful. And I only cut certain overly long scenes. The viewer doesn't even notice their absence. The cuts have in no way changed neither the subject matter nor what was for us important in the film. In other words, we removed overly long scenes which had no significance.' (We've added the PAL equivalents in italics).
The three PAL DVD releases run at about 174:30, which is equivalent to about 182:00 NTSC, a few minutes shorter than the shortest version in the Tarkovsky quote.

"Antropophagus AKA The Grim Reaper AKA Anthropophagous: The Beast","Draw","Between the R1 2-disc SE, R2 Italian 2-Disc set by 'Beat Records' and the R2 Austrian release.
R1 SE and R2 Italian -releases have both English and Italian audio (original score) with English subtitles, and some good extra features (English friendly). Note, that R1 is 1.78:1, while the Italian -release is 1.66:1 (this was probably shown in both ways).
The R2 Austrian release includes a slightly longer cut of the film (compared to the Italian-release at least) and audio commentary (probably not English friendly) with some additional minor extras, but it does not include the Italian audio track for the film.
