What are good "Found footage" movies? after the BWP?

Post by Christian_Bütikofer »

I watched a lot of them. Mostly it was boring. At best disappointing.

My best I watched:

"The Dyatlov Pass Incident". It was a very good idea (F****d up by "pleasing" to Americans - but as I thought, could have been a lot stronger) ) and something at the end that could be believable).
Borderland: A story that has some root. And very well made. My favorite by far what I watched. The best *found footage" horror by far.

So: Besides Cloiverfield and REC and Borderland: Where are the followers of the Blair Witch Project with high "watch value"? Bevause I have seen so many unbelievable bad things ...

Hard to point out good ones. They’re all so similar. For me, I enjoy when they manage to raise a few chills even if they all end the same way. Some that I found good enough:

Noroi: The Curse (masterpiece)
Host (2020)
Heidi
Lake Mungo
Evil Things
In Memorium
Hell House, LLC
21 Days
Spirit Stalkers
Ghostfinders
Hollow’s Grove
Final Prayer/The Borderlands
Muirhouse
Interior
Leaving D.C.
The Break-in
Always Watching
The Taking of Deborah Logan
Butterfly Kisses
Exists
The Collingwood Story
Grave Encounters (just don’t watch the extras, the filmmakers behind the film are worse than the ones in it)
Evidence (2012)
The Banshee Chapter

Plenty of other time-wasters. It’s best to find them on streaming venues rather than tracking any down on disc.

Hi Eric,

thanks for all the suggestions! I only bought Found Footage Movies when they were on amazon germany for a bargain price ;-). Maybe I will buy the Second Sight release (have the american blu-ray but never watched it). It seems that this one has some merits after reading your review.

I bought this one but never watched it. I will now, I guess it's better than all this "sheit" I watched the last days ;-). My experience: Found Footage from other countries than the US are/have some potential. Exception to the rule: Stay away from this Spanish/Mexican "work" "Episode 50" (will post the blu-ray specs soon, just for completion for dvdcompare). Baaaad. Or in Spanish: "maluco" ;-)!

"Chronicle"
Creative use of found footage and the superhero genre.

"Diary of the Dead"
Obviously not George Romero's best but there are some good ideas in here.

"Searching"
Very creative and engaging mystery using only existing cameras and screens (webcams, CCTV, Facetime, etc)
http://www.dvdcompare.net/comparisons/f ... ?fid=49009

"Look"
Very underrated film using only existing cameras. A TV series was also made, but haven't seen that myself.

"Afflicted"
Fairly enjoyable body horror.

Hi James,

also thanks for the movie suggestions. I bought "Chronicle" long time ago, but also didn't watch it until now. Wasn't aware that it is a FF movie. All the others I didn't know, besides "Afflicted". I liked the ending of "Afflicted". But a lot of it... ;-). I had a real hard time to watch it after the party in Paris and the first scenes in Italy ,-). At least they made some effort to try to take you there to the locations. What I don^t get is that this movie gets an average of 6.3 on IMDB from over 23'000 users,-)... but hell: Even the "new" Star Wars movies get at least that;-)

Cannibal Holocaust (1980)

And not exactly "found footage", but worth noting as it uses mostly real footage;

The Original Faces of Death (1978)
