The commentary for the alternate ending on the US R1 DVD is actually not optional. There's no option for a commentary in the menu and the featurette plays with 3 English tracks available which are all identical; all with commentary.

I'm assuming the same might be true for all the other regions, but I can't be certain as I only have the US R1 release.
