BFI Blu-ray + DVD

Details below are for the 2012 dual format Blu-ray + DVD release, but can also be used to make additions/corrections for the 2009 Blu-ray only release (ASIN: B0027FFSSA) and DVD only release (ASIN: B0027FFSSK).

Note that the 2012 booklet must be different to the 2009 booklet, since it includes a reference to the year 2011. I don't know the full details of the differences.
Personally, I always base the number of pages in a booklet on the total number of sides, including the front and back covers.
This means that the number of pages must be a multiple of 2, and usually a multiple of 4 (especially if it consists of sheets of paper comprising 4 pages each, stapled together at the crease).
Using this method of counting, a booklet cannot have 37 pages. However, the 2009 booklet might have 37 numbered pages, depending on how the pages are numbered, plus it might have one or more blank pages.

DVD region coding:

2012 Blu-ray + DVD: probably region 0:
https://shop.bfi.org.uk/the-other-side- ... ition.html

2009 DVD only: probably region 0, but possibly region 2 locked:
BFI website states region 2:
https://www2.bfi.org.uk/blu-rays-dvds/o ... underneath
but some other sources (e.g. listings on ebay) state that it is region 0, and a posting on Criterion website also states it is region 0:
https://www.criterionforum.org/forum/vi ... php?t=9312
"The Other Side of the Underneath: UK / 1972 / colour / cert 18 / English language with hard-of-hearing subtitles / 106 minutes / Ratio 1.33:1 / Region 0
DVD Cat no: BFIVD829 / Blu-ray cat no: BFIB1011"

-------
Blu-ray OVERALL:

Severin has extensive exclusive extras, but the Workprint Version has lossy audio and no subtitles, the Extended Sequences have no subtitles, and the interviews have lossy audio.

BFI has the Workprint Version with uncompressed audio and subtitles, Extended Sequences with subtitles, interviews with uncompressed audio, and a minor exclusive extra (Anti-Clock trailer, but note this is also available on the BFI Blu-rays of Anti-Clock and Separation).

-------
Additional Notes regarding the Blu-rays:

Workprint Version:
BFI runtime is 8 seconds shorter than Severin, but BFI uses non-drop-frame timecode whereas Severin uses drop-frame. 129:30 non-drop-frame is equivalent to about 129:38 drop-frame.

Theatrical Version:
BFI runtime is about the same as Severin, but BFI uses non-drop-frame timecode whereas Severin uses drop-frame. 110:52 non-drop-frame is equivalent to about 110:59 drop-frame. This would suggest that Severin is missing about 7 seconds in total. However, it does not appear that any shots are missing or significantly shorter. I have checked various points throughout the movie, noting the timecodes for the same frame of picture in each release, and the timecodes only drift very gradually, with Severin ending up only 8 frames higher by the end of the movie, not the expected 7 seconds. Perhaps Severin blends or skips occasional frames, but so far I have not spotted any such instances.

Thanks.

A few small things:

1. "Penny Slinger: Live at the Miskatonic Institute of Horror Studies" is from 2019, not 2022 - it has the exact recording date in the opening credits of the item itself.

2. The years of recording of the interviews have not yet been corrected for the Severin box set release (2008 and 2007, not 2009) - the recording dates are in the end credits of each item.

3. The Notes section for the Severin individual release can be copied to the Severin box set release, but note also that the Severin box set is now available on Amazon (ASIN: B0B8T9CV24).

The Notes section has not been copied from the Severin single disc release to the Severin box set. Is there a reason for this? I do realise it would be duplication, but the details do apply to both releases, as the discs contents are identical.
