Nightmares in a Damaged Brain Blu-ray ADDED

Postby Darrel_Griffin » 26 Sep 2022 18:44

Nightmares in a Damaged Brain (a.k.a. Nightmare) (1981)
(plus bonus movie: Bloodsucking Pharaohs in Pittsburgh (1991))

2 x Blu-ray + DVD

Germany - Astro Records & Filmworks

---
DISC ONE (Blu-ray)

Title: Nightmares in a Damaged Brain (a.k.a. Nightmare)
Country: Germany
Region: ALL
Releasing Studio: Astro Records & Filmworks
Case Type: Mediabook
Aspect Ratio: 1.78:1
Codec: AVC MPEG-4
Picture: 1080p24
Soundtracks:
German Dolby Digital 2.0 Mono
English Dolby Digital 2.0 Mono

Subtitles: none
Cuts: Cut status unknown - presumably cut (98:54)
(Note: This version does not include the opening "21st Century Distribution Corp." logo (0:09) that is included on the 88 Films UK Blu-ray release. This pretty much accounts for the runtime difference between the two. I haven't checked whether this is the only difference, but I expect so. If true, then this version would have the same minor cuts as the 88 Films Blu-ray.)

Commentaries: commentary by associate producer Bill Paul
Extras:

Trailers x 4 (5:55, in English) (2:25 + 0:33 + 0:31 + 2:26)
"The Making of Nightmare" featurette (17:36)
Interview with special effects make-up artist Edward French (4:30)
Image Gallery (9:15, animated, 77 images)
Deleted Scene (1:01)
Bonus Trailers:
- Black Belly of the Tarantula (1:57, in English)
- Motel Hell (2:36, in German)
- The Boogeyman (2:18, in German)

Notes:
Easter Eggs: none known

---
DISC TWO (Blu-ray) : BONUS MOVIE (label: DigiDreams Studios)

Note: This disc is already in the database as 2 standalone releases from the year 2020. The details below mostly agree with the existing entries, although I have also included the number of images in each gallery. The other differences are:

1. the runtime, which I have previously posted about - the runtime of 89:07 is correct for all of these releases.
2. The 2.0 audio tracks - the German one sounded mono to me. If it is stereo, the stereo separation is very minimal. But possibly it is surround and just sounds like mono on a non-surround system (I only have a stereo system).

Title: Bloodsucking Pharaohs in Pittsburgh
Country: Germany
Region: ALL
Releasing Studio: DigiDreams Studios
(Note: I think DigiDreams Studios is the parent company of Astro Records & Filmworks.)

Case Type: Mediabook
Aspect Ratio: 1.78:1
Codec: AVC MPEG-4
Picture: 1080p24
Soundtracks:

German Dolby Digital 5.1
German Dolby Digital 2.0 Mono (or could be 2.0 Surround - I have no way of checking)
English Dolby Digital 5.1
English Dolby Digital 2.0 Stereo (or could be 2.0 Surround - I have no way of checking)

Subtitles: German (optional)
Cuts: No cuts - unrated version (89:07)
Commentaries: none
Extras:

Video/DVD Trailer (0:52, in English)
Teaser Trailer (0:55, in English)
Interview with director Dean Tschetter (33:29, in English but overdubbed in German)
Interview with producer and actress Beverly Penberthy (22:11, in English but overdubbed in German)
"Behind the Scenes" featurette (14:56, in English)
Deleted Scenes (18:47)
Image Galleries:
- Artwork (1:38, 19 images)
- Photos (3:33, 41 images)
- Press Book (0:20, 5 images)
- Storyboards (9:24, 141 images)
- Behind the Scenes (6:40, 99 images)
- Press Photos (0:32, 8 images)

Notes: Additional shots for the unrated version are from a poor quality source.
Easter Eggs: none known

---
DISC THREE (DVD)

Note: This disc IS an official part of the set (it says "3-DISC-EDITION" on the back cover), but the Mediabook is only designed to hold 2 discs, so this disc is contained in a separate square thin paper sleeve, loose inside the Mediabook.

Title: Nightmares in a Damaged Brain (a.k.a. Nightmare)
Country: Germany
Region: ALL
Releasing Studio: Astro Records & Filmworks / XT Video
(Note: At startup the DVD displays the "XT Video" logo)

Case Type: Mediabook
Aspect Ratio: 1.33:1 open matte
Anamorphic?: no
PAL or NTSC?: PAL (NTSC -> PAL conversion)
Soundtracks:

German Dolby Digital 2.0 Mono
English Dolby Digital 2.0 Mono

Subtitles: none
Cuts: Cut status unknown - may be uncut (99:21 NTSC -> PAL)
(Note: This version does not include the opening "21st Century Distribution Corp." logo (0:09) that is included on the 88 Films UK Blu-ray release. Therefore it appears that it has about 0:27 of additional footage compared with both the DISC ONE Blu-ray in this set and the 88 Films Blu-ray.)

Commentaries: none
Extras: none
Notes:
Easter Eggs: none known

---
Notes:
Limited Edition Mediabook of 500, with choice of 4 covers: A (250) / B (100) / C (75) / D (75)
The 1.33:1 open matte version on the DVD is slightly cropped at the sides, but has more image top and bottom, compared with the widescreen version on the Blu-ray.

Amazon ASIN: B07B2WQMVK
(However, note that the picture and description on this page on Amazon are for the 88 Films Blu-ray, so it is quite confusing)

Sources:
I own it, and I also own the 88 Films UK Blu-ray
Total numbers of covers are from this website (I don't know if this source is reliable):

I'll take this.

UPDATE: Added! Based on your notes, I assume the German transfer is that of the 88 Films version. Also weird how this release's ASIN listed the details for the UK release (which makes no sense). Because of that, I'm leaving the ASIN listing blank.

Many thanks for the details and research. :)
