Disney Classics DVD Project - Do you own any?

Postby Samuel_Scott » 03 May 2019 09:33

Hi all, I've looked at some of our DVD comparisons for the Disney Classics and many haven't been updated in years and are - to be honest - in a state where it will probably be easier to delete and start again. Next week I want to try and start updating as many as I can.

If any of you own any, can you please post the specs in this thread, with one release per post? No limits, just post away, and they don't count as any of your three!

Thanks,

Sam
I work away a lot but I will reply to all PM's within a few days so please have patience!

Also noteworthy is the fact that as Disney have progressively scrubbed their original classics clean and hugely altered their appearance over the years, successive releases have charted the transfers' decline.

For a long time I thought of trying to ascertain the best, most original releases of all their films up to the start of digital animation, and detailing them in a series of articles. But it's just too big a project. I still hunt down various beautiful grainy, organic and atmospheric DVDs instead of many of the BDs though!

I just hope I live long enough to see them finally release HD restorations of their film-based works, minus all the revisionism...

Will add some specs here as I rewatch my discs. :)

Deleting the pages just to start over again seems like a hassle. You're better off just updating the pages.

You know what would be a good idea, we make a a new section in the forums where people who have the releases currently listed can give us the full rundown (runtimes, submenu sections, etc.).

And now you are going to have to take the Disney+ changes into account when adding version notes.

Not necessarily, Eric. I often think about that issue, but between Disney and numerous other studios, streaming versions are being altered more and more often. It would be a Sisyphean task trying to keep tabs on them. Here's an interesting recent article:
- https://www.theguardian.com/film/2020/a ... ryl-hannah

And here's the latest example, from this week:
- https://www.vulture.com/2020/05/gods-ow ... -film.html

The beauty of this site, and physical media in general, is that it enables us to own and hold immutable, physical copies of films that no one can change or take from us. We should stick to what we do best. On the other hand, I bet the domain StreamingCompare.net is free if you're interested...
