Image quality is dreadful; looks like a VHS with lots of damage and green vertical lines on the print. It appears to be "Open matte".
The R2 has approximately 10 minutes of additional footage, that's missing from the R1. This extra footage is mainly made up of numerous bits of dialogue and shots of the kids walking on the mountain etcetera, BUT the "crotch death" scene is also 0:03 longer (compared to the R1):
On the R2, you see the blade emerge from Vachel's backside, then the camera cuts briefly to his face, then back to the blade being slowly(ish) pulled back. All the while he's clutching feebly at the blade (which you can see due to the "Open matte" transfer).
On the R1 Shriek Show, the sequence is cut by about 0:03; mainly as the blade is withdrawn, but the initial stab may also be missing a few frames.
Further more, R2 is missing approximately 6:00 of material compared to R1 (from about 36:02 to 41:22, and then from about 71:30 to 72:20 (on the R1 disc).
Blondies "Heart of Glass" song is intact (R2 includes more of the song). -
Special thanks to Rewind user philly q for providing these specifications.

OVERALL: Draw
Between the R1 Code Red release for both US and Longer European cuts and the R1 Shriek Show SE for the 5.1 sound (in addition of including the original mono) and extras.
There is also a US budget-release of this film (by "Platinum"), but we donīt have proper specs. Itīs said to be unauthorized.
There are essentially two main versions of the film and one hybrid cut:
1.) US theatrical cut - 91 minutes.
2.) International theatrical cut - 103 minutes.
3.) Hybrid cut - 94 minutes. -
CUTS:
- R1 America- Code Red - No cuts - includes both uncut US theatrical version (90:24 NTSC) and the longer European version (102:24 NTSC)
- R1 2-Disc Special Edition America- Media Blasters - Yes - US theatrical cut; Blondies "Heart of Glass" song is shorter than in the UK-release, and the print is missing 0:03 of gore included in the old "Paragon Video" VHS tape and now in the UK DVD and also some other material is missing, probably for pacing (90:02 NTSC)
- R2 United Kingdom- Odeon Entertainment - Yes - Hybrid version that seems to be a mix of the US theatrical cut and the longer international cut (93:45 PAL)
