Hell Town AKA Born to the West (1937) UPDATED

Post by Brent_Reid »

You may like to consider switching the title around: it was originally released as Born to the West; Hell Town was the 1950 US TV edited reissue title.
All the listed DVDs are poor quality bootlegs of the TV reissue edit, hence their titles. The only official release to date is a 1994 LaserDisc. More on this here.

Which also brings me to...

Cheers. The BBFC has a bunch of missing DVD runtimes on the latter's page, under "Related Works": https://bbfc.co.uk/releases/hell-town-1951

I have at least two unlisted copies of this on DVD, from Mill Creek and and this one from Classic Entertainment; I'll add them later when I dig them out.

I've found runtimes listed at BBFC and DVD runtimes to be a little different so I don't use their site for runtimes.

You're welcome. Couldn't find Amazon listings or proper runtime specs for many, but decided not to delete them.

I wouldn't agree with deleting them either, but this site sure could use some sort of generic "These are technically bootlegs" marker for such releases...

I've got the specs of my Classic Entertainment PD DVD (ASIN: B000692XF0). It has three films, is NTSC, region 0, no subs or extras and DD 2.0 mono. The runtimes are:
  • The Painted Desert (1931) (74:34)
    Texas Terror (1935) (50:14)
    Born to the West/Hell Town (1937) (55:27)
I figure these should be easy enough to add, or would you prefer a full comparison posting?

The already-listed Classic Entertainment disc with Texas Terror is this one.

Three films? Definitely not easy to add. Please submit as a new entry.
