Talk To Her AKA Hable Con Ella
R2 - United Kingdom - Pathe! Distribution
Review written by and copyright: Sam Scott (8th June 2004).
The Film

The film starts with a ballet and focuses on 2 people in the crowd. Alicia (a ballerina) and Marco Zuluaga (a travel writer). They notice each other and he cries watching the ballet. This sets off the intertwining of a great story. Marco is writing an article for a newspaper about the female bullfighter Lydia Gonzalez and they end up in love. Then, at one bullfight, Lydia is savaged and left in a coma. Obviously, she is taken to hospital where, Marco visits her everyday. He doesn't say anything, he justs sits at her side waiting. It is when walking through the hospital hallway, that Marco notices Benigno, a hospital employee looking after Alicia who was at the ballet at the beginning of the film. The two become friends, frequently meeting in the hospital where they talk to and look after the ladies. Soon enough, we find that Benigno is in love with Alicia and she is found to be pregnant. Benigno is sent to jail for rape and it is here where I found myself engaged in an excellent film, with excellent directing, and excellent acting. I loved it. It's a very difficult film to describe so I therefor recommend everyone to watch it.

Video

A nice clean 2.35:1 anamorphic transfer. Again, no complaints, although the skin colours were ever so slightly off during the film.

Audio

A Spanish 5.1 track does the job perfectly. The surrounds are only really used for the musical sequences as the film is very dialogue driven. It certainly does the job though as the dialogue is clear and crisp.

Extras

A theatrical trailer and 2 bonus trailers for Y Tu Mama Tambien and Live Flesh are included on the disc. Unfortunately, that's the lot.

Overall
